Hobson City Public Library is committed to promoting access to information, reducing barriers to the digital world, increasing literacy and academic achievement, as well as promoting literary experiences. The library opened in June of 2010 and offers visitors access to print resources as well as internet access.
Since opening in 2010, the Hobson City Public Library has grown from a collection of mismatched furniture and outdated books to a beautiful 21st century facility featuring 10 public access Internet computers, current collections of new books and videos for children, adolescents and adults, and a brand new room designed especially with patrons age birth to six.
Our community outreach has also grown. This year we estimate that over 100 people will participate in our summer reading program. We are working with the Oxford City Schools to ensure our students will be prepared for academic success. Additionally, Saturday afternoons feature children’s movies and free popcorn. We also provide a bi-monthly storytime for the children in the Hobson City Head Start. In 2013 we added Family Nights on Mondays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. which have been very successful thanks to a partnership with the Jacksonville State University International House. We anticipate that we will continue to provide high quality educational and enrichment programs to the community and access to information and the digital world for years to come.
